I am excited to launch Right Mediator, a service for clients that I have been considering for some years.

You have known me as a mediator since 1999 when I left the practice of law to practice mediation full time.

Over the years I have pondered how I can champion the incredible diversity of experiences and backgrounds of the exceptional mediators available in Australia. Right Mediator is one way that I can recommend people with great skill, patience and experience who you may not have heard about.

I know the people featured on this page as the Right Mediators.  If I am not the Right Mediator for you I recommend that you consider their profiles next time you are looking to engage a mediator.

Lynette Edwards

Lynette commenced her mediation career under the guidance and mentorship of Steve Lancken, while working with him at Negocio Resolutions. 

She then operated her own practice supporting businesses, workplaces and individuals, covering a wide range of industries.

Over 2,000 matters later she specializes in workplace and commercial mediations; conflict management coaching and training.

She has worked across government, private sector and the not-for-profit sector.

I have been a full-time mediator and tribunal member since 1999.

As one of Australia’s most experienced practitioners of mediation, negotiation and facilitation I have also held teaching appointments at UNSW, AGSM, Sydney University, UTS and the College of Law.

Ben Lee

Ben brings a rare combination of conflict resolution, international negotiation, human rights and crisis management expertise to his mediation practice. His peacebuilding work – including with the United Nations in conflict zones and as a negotiator for Australia  – has taken him to more than 30 countries over the past two decades.

Right Mediator Promises and Qualifications

The Right Mediator is accredited under AMDRAS

1.    The Right Mediator brings all their lived and learned experience to their work and welcomes feedback about their services

2.     The Right Mediator is a member of Resolution Institute and subscribes to the Resolution Institute’s complaints handling processes

3.      The Right Mediator will not accept work for which they are not qualified and will direct you to an appropriate mediator for your dispute

4.      The Right Mediator will not charge for a preliminary conversation to determine if your conflict is suitable for mediation and that they are the right mediator

5.      The Right Mediator is an expert at supporting caring, focused and collaborative conversations that offer the best chance to reach an agreement

6.      The Right Mediator understands litigation and tribunal processes and has excellent negotiation skills

7.      The Right Mediator has a repertoire of skills that they apply appropriately to offer the best chance to reach an agreement

8.       The Right Mediator is impartial and will not accept work if they have a conflict

Right Mediator fees are based on the following indicative hourly rates (including GST)

The Right Mediator will offer you fixed fee “packages” that include all preparation for the mediation.

The Right Mediator does not charge you for an initial conversation to determine if your conflict is suitable for mediation and that they are the right mediator

The Right Mediator will offer you fixed fee "packages" that include all preparation for the mediation.
The Right Mediator does not charge you for an initial conversation to determine if your conflict is suitable for mediation and that they are the right mediator.

Fees do not include expenses such as the following that will be paid separately –

  • Room hire
  • Travel costs (for mediations outside Sydney)

The Right Mediator will issue an invoice for the full amount before the day of a mediation.

Special Circumstances

The Right Mediator will be prepared to negotiate fees in special circumstances such as financial hardship or disputes in lower courts where the fees quoted above are not proportionate to the amount in dispute.

Cancellation

Cancellation fees may apply if a mediation is cancelled after it has been booked:

  • If cancelled between 4 weeks and 2 weeks prior to the date of the mediation, the fee will be half the rate

If cancelled within 2 weeks of the date of the mediation, the full fee will apply.

Payment

The Right Mediator requests that payment be made or arrangements for payment be agreed BEFORE the date of the mediation. We accept payment through direct deposit.
